Northeastern sees itself as an integral thread in Boston’s tapestry. Our students, faculty, and staff work hand in hand with community members, ensuring our dedication to fulfilling the obligations outlined in the 2013 Institutional Master Plan and beyond. We aim to be a vital asset in community events and programs, uplifting families and offering enriching opportunities to all.
Wellness Series
The Wellness series features classes held at Northeastern Crossing and other locations focused on health and wellness. All sessions are open to the public with pre-registration.
Previous sessions have included yoga classes held by Therlande Louissaint, financial literacy classes hosted by the Vincita Institute, and nutrition classes held in conjunction with Madison Park Community Development Corporation.

A.R.T.S Series: A Road to Strengthening Community
This collection of events gathers community members, campus partners, and arts professionals for a variety of learning events targeted around the arts. Curated from partnerships with local film makers, artists, educators, and campus partners, these events are open to the public and create space for community building.

Nonprofit and Small Business Capacity Building
The Non-Profit and Small Business Development Series features a mixture of online and in-person trainings around key topics for nonprofits and small businesses. These workshops are great for anyone interested in furthering their own knowledge and skills in topics such as branding, grant writing, legal consideration, and partnership building.
Previous sessions have included a free law clinic to help community members file for non-profit status, and various classes focused on branding and capacity building from community organizations such as the YMCA and Beat the Odds.

Community Grants
Our annual Community Grants program provides local non-profits with a cash grant to fund specific projects. Our goal is to uplift the community through intentional investment and fund ideas from local community leaders. Grant recipients are honored at our annual Heart of CommUNITY awards ceremony.

Heat Breaks
In collaboration with the Climate Justice and Sustainability Hub, we help provide heat relief during high heat afternoons. Various cool spot pop-ups with a hydration and misting stations are located in both Carter Field and on-campus. Throughout the summer we sponsor Community Heat Breaks at community centers across Roxbury, Mission Hill, Fenway, and the South End, with Del’s Lemonade, games, and swag.

Co-op and Youth Programs
CCE hosts and assists various youth-centered programs, including the C2C Youth Summer Jobs program. Northeastern hosts around 200 students through both Bridge to Calculus and the summer internship program. City and Community Engagement hosts 2 interns in our office every summer, providing them with the opportunity to explore local neighborhoods culminating in a creative capstone project.
Additionally, City and Community Engagement sponsors local organizations to participate in the co-op program every year.
